WHY SHOULD AOC's CREDENTIALS BE IMPORTANT TO YOU?
Do credentials really matter when it comes to who collects your used oil materials? "What difference do credentials mean to me?" This is a common question when we meet with customers. Here are a few thoughts we'd like to offer on this important subject:
In the last two years small businesses and Fortune 100 organizations across the Southeast have been named in lawsuits by the Environmental Protection Agency due to their Jackson, MS used oil recycler. By taking only the cheapest cost route or the highest pay, several hundred businesses are spending thousands of dollars in legal charges to defend themselves. Transmission shops, offshore service companies and manufacturers alike are tangled up in this liability. This happened because the recycler had no credentials, no process and inadequate protection for its customers.
Other recyclers used the failed recycler too, and their customers were drawn into the liability as well! Just because you use a "known" or big-name recycler does not mean your organization is off the hook. If your used oil recycler cannot show you certified processing of your material, they may simply be selling or dumping your liability on another recycler, which will always lead back to you. That happened to a Louisiana used oil recycler who serviced major oil companies, quick lubes, jobbers, garages and car dealerships. Today they are all trying to disconnect from this environmental liability.
We believe the best strategy to protect against these types of liabilities is to use recyclers who are ISO 14001 Certified and have credentials, legitimate materials processing, great insurance and excellent service. Don't be trapped by cheap deals that lead to costly liability!
