McConnell Athletics Mission

McConnell Athletics is founded on the purpose of teaching, coaching, and leading each individual to wellness in spirit, mind, and body. We work with both coaches/trainers and athletes/clients in enhancing both the proficiency and efficiency of coaching and performance.

Every coaching service at McConnell Athletics is simply an extension of our work with competitive athletes as we believe there is indeed an “athlete in every body”.

For coaching/fitness professionals: We strive to clarify and enhance a coach's toolbox in ways that lead to better outcomes in their athletes' and clients' performance and results. From how to best warm up prior to a workout to technical cues in basic exercises, from how to pinpoint weak links to how to implement program design in resolving deficiencies, and everything between.

For athletes: We take each individual athlete and teach them to be leaders in every area of life in a way that positively impacts others whether in a team setting, socially, or family. Physical fitness is an attribute that is best used to enhance every other area of life, and it’s the “skill of strength” being practiced consistently that will attract success in every aspect of life. By each individual taking responsibility for their own performance via specific training (that is beyond the scope of workouts at school or even professional team environment) potential is tapped into in a way that constructively impacts others in proaction in their (and overall team's) favor.

For fitness clients: We guide each individual to find and follow what needs to be done at this stage, how to progress, and to develop a 'life of fitness' that is both successful in achieving desired outcome and practical to adhere to for lasting results. In other words, our purpose is to teach and coach our clients how to take command of their overall health (and appearance) so that the tools are in hand. Only the necessary commitment to compliance is the individual's responsiblity from there.

We believe that our clients become better teammates, athletes, and competitors with our guidance. We are here to bridge the gap from school/team weight rooms to the field, court, or other arena of performance.

We counsel and coach clients from as young as 6-8 yrs old to those into their 10th decade, and athletes of all ages and levels who are as committed to excellence and actualizing their fullest potential as we are. Others need not apply.

We assess each individual's strengths and weaknesses, then address the needs of that individual in way that brings solutions. We teach each individual that proper biomechanical function does not just "come natural" even to the best "natural athletes". Proper function must be assessed and then, as necessary, corrected before progressive training, much less optimal performance, can be expected.

We believe that the body and mind are to be a well coordinated unit for optimal performance and overall health on a day-to-day basis, and that a true athlete lives with the 'spirit of an athlete' in all areas of life, on and off the field of play and practice, and in and out of the gym. Optimal health and enhanced performance work together and we keep that at the forefront of our program design and the way we implement training day by day.

We believe that competitive athletes are indeed athletes 365 days a year and are best to understand that, and live it, to actualize their fullest potential. Our success is not based just on our athletes working hard and getting bigger, stronger, and faster with better "numbers" in training, but in enhanced performance and consistency in the on-field/court product.

Actualizing one's potential is a persistent day-by-day process that is reserved for those individuals courageous enough to question perceived limits while projecting into the future, reflecting upon the past, and mastering the present moment. As well, realizing your potential requires taking responsibility for how your habits and actions effect those around you including, but not limited to, your teammates. Not coincidentally, this is also the definition of a leader.

Leadership is:

  • A perpetual responsibility with uncommon rewards from the inside out
  • Not for the condescending, blaming, or cowardly
  • Striving for perfection while understanding reality is no such thing
  • Taking accountability for mistakes with understanding authority to respond for better
  • Responding to failures with constructive words and actions to bring progress
  • Understanding "success" is a process that begins anew as soon as it's experienced
