Tips on Air Conditioning and Heating

TIP:
If temperatures vary greatly from room to room, it could be an air distribution problem, not an air conditioner, furnace or heat pump problem. The problem is uneven airflow. Many homes are equipped with adjustable dampers inside the air supply ducts to allow you to adjust the airflow yourself. Additionally, each register is usually equipped with a damper to restrict the air entering a room. Fully open dampers in rooms where the temperature is too hot in the summer or too cool in the winter. If additional or new ductwork is needed, Hansen Heating and Cooling can help.

TIP:
If airflow from the vents seems weak, you may have a dirty filter. The inside blower unit uses filters to protect the system from large dust, hair and other airborne particles circulating throughout the house. The filter naturally clogs and should be cleaned or replaced each month. If dirty filters are not cleaned or replaced, the whole system wears out faster and consumes more energy. Sometimes, the outside coil or condenser needs cleaning, something Hansen Heating and Cooling can help with.

TIP:
Proper maintenance of air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces ensures the units are running properly and efficiently. The dirtier a unit, the less efficient it is, lowering your comfort level and costing you more in energy. Hansen Heating and Cooling can set up regular maintenance of your air conditioner, heat pump or furnace with a low-cost annual maintenance agreement.
